The band Velvet Sundown, which gained popularity with its debut album "Floating on Echoes," has revealed that it is entirely generated by artificial intelligence.
The band's hit song "Dust on the Wind" topped Spotify's daily "Viral 50" chart in Britain, Norway, and Sweden, while the band's listeners were unaware of its AI origins.
The band's photos and album cover featured unnaturally smooth and matte images, characteristic of AI-generated visuals, and its lyrics contained generic anti-war sentiments and clichés.
Velvet Sundown released multiple albums at a rapid pace, with two in June alone, and finally disclosed its AI-generated nature in its Spotify biography, emphasizing the project's artistic provocation.
Uncertainty now remains regarding potential backlash from streaming platforms like Spotify and YouTube's decision to cut monetization for AI-generated content.
