A yacht traveling through the Strait of Gibraltar has sunk after it was violently attacked by a group of killer whales. The incident, which involved the 49-foot yacht Alboran Cognac, occurred Sunday morning, according to Spain’s maritime service. Passengers reported feeling sudden blows to the hull and rudder before water started pouring into the vessel, the service reports. Fortunately, an oil tanker was close enough to rescue the passengers before the yacht disappeared into the water, officials say. Apparently, orcas don’t like ships passing through the Straight of Gibraltar. Since 2020, there have been almost 700 “interactions” between the ocean mammals and vessels, according to the research group GTOA. What’s the most threatening wild animal you’ve come across?
