A rare type of solar eclipse will take place this evening and Thursday morning on the other side of the world where it will be visible. Called a hybrid solar eclipse, a viewer on a ship in the South Indian Ocean would be able to see the moon covering the sun for a brief instant before it moves into a total solar eclipse. What makes it a hybrid is the ring of fire that shows as the entire sun is covered.. The largest town in the path of the eclipse will be Exmouth in Western Australia, population 28-hundred.
