Doctor Who Cleared Tagovailoa To Return To Game Is Fired
The physician who cleared Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to return to the field after suffering a blow to the head has been fired.
The physician was serving as a UNC - 'unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant' - during the Sept. 25th Dolphins-Bills game. He gave the green light for Tua to return in the 3rd quarter despite hitting his head on the turf and stumbling as he left the field.
Tagovailoa was not placed in the concussion protocol and was allowed to play on Thursday, where he suffered another blow to the head that sent him to the hospital.
The physician's name has not been made public. UNCs are employed by the league and player's union - but not the teams - to monitor for concussions and brain injury.Â
What other changes do you expect the league to make in response to the Tua situation?
