In your WTF news, a Florida Commissioner has come up with the dumbest idea to help save our Manatees! Commissioner Curt Smith is facing intense criticism from marine advocates after he suggested allowing people to kill manatees as a way to control their population, and help protect their food source... seagrass! Comparing it to how some states hunt deer and bears.
They were having a commissioners meeting to find a solution to protect the marine animals after 1000 manatees reportedly starved to death last year because the lack of seagrass, this according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Just a heads up dude... Manatees are protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species act, and the Florida Manatee Sanctuary Act. Harassing, hurting, or killing a manatee can come with state and/or federal penalties, including fines and/or jail time.
