It's time to upgrade the emojis people. If you've ever had an idea for an emoji that we need at our fingertips, you're in luck because apparently, you can submit your ideas! But the new emojis are in and there are some I know will be frequently used and others...well, you be the judge.
The release of the new emojis was delayed this year due to the pandemic, and the proposal submissions were on pause until this April. The list of new emojis technically won’t be finalized by the Unicode Consortium until September, but most candidates shown in the draft make it through. The final versions of these emojis should roll out to devices and platforms starting late 2021 through 2022.
The new emojis show a continued expansion of race and gender inclusivity. The current emojis have customizable skin tones for the handshake emoji, a person with a crown, and both a pregnant man and a pregnant person join the pregnant woman, among others.
