Miami, FL - Former NFL receiver Antonio Brown has been extradited to Miami to face an attempted murder charge tied to a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event.
Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was returned to the United States this week to face an attempted murder charge connected to a shooting outside a Miami event in May, according to law enforcement officials.
Miami Police confirmed that Brown, 37, was extradited from Dubai after months outside the country.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service said Brown landed in Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday before being booked into the Essex County Jail.
Authorities issued a warrant for Brown in June on a charge of attempted murder with a firearm related to a May 16 shooting near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street.
Investigators said an off-duty officer working security at the event heard gunfire, went outside and saw Brown allegedly involved in a physical fight with another individual. Video circulating online appeared to show part of the altercation involving multiple people.
According to the arrest warrant, several witnesses at the scene identified Brown as the individual who allegedly fired shots.
Officers reported that Brown did not have a weapon on him during a pat-down.
Investigators said they found two spent shell casings and an empty holster in the area.
After the incident, Brown wrote on social media that he had been attacked by several people who tried to steal his jewelry and said he was released by police after explaining his account.
Miami Police stated that Brown will be transferred to Miami-Dade County once the extradition process is completed.
