Tampa, FL - A JetBlue flight from Mexico to New Jersey was forced to make an emergency landing in Tampa after a sudden altitude drop left several passengers injured.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), JetBlue Flight 1230, an Airbus A320 traveling from Cancun to Newark, diverted to Tampa International Airport around 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Air traffic control audio captured a pilot reporting multiple injuries on board, including a possible head laceration.
Emergency medical personnel met the aircraft upon landing, evaluating passengers and crew before transporting some individuals to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The FAA confirmed it has opened an investigation into the incident, describing it as a potential “flight control issue.”
JetBlue said the plane has been removed from service for a detailed inspection and that a full internal investigation is underway.
The airline did not specify how many passengers were injured or the severity of their conditions but stated that safety remains its top priority.
The aircraft, which seats 162 passengers, landed safely with no reported structural damage.
The sudden loss of altitude and resulting turbulence reportedly caused the in-flight injuries, though officials have not released an official cause.
This event follows a June incident involving another JetBlue aircraft that rolled off the runway at Boston’s Logan International Airport.
No injuries occurred in that case, but it prompted additional scrutiny of airline operations and safety procedures.
