Miami Commission Considering ICE Agreement & Election Changes

Before debating whether to sign an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Miami commissioners have been getting earfuls from residents opposing the resolution.

Many residents say it's inhumane, will scare families, cost the city in lawsuits and go against the people who created the city.

The City of South Miami is suing to determine if cities must sign 287(g) agreements.

Commissioners are also expected to discuss moving elections to even years to save money and increase voter turnout, but it would also give the current elected officials an extra year in office.

A third measure would let voters decide whether to limit the mayor and commissioners two terms each.

Most public speakers supported those measures.
