The 39th President of the United States was born on October 1st, 1924.

“Not everybody gets 100 years on this earth, and when somebody does, and when they use that time to do so much good for so many people, it's worth celebrating," Jason Carter, the former president's grandson and chair of The Carter Center governing board, said in an interview.

Carter was last seen in public a year ago, using a reclining wheelchair to attend his wife's funeral service.

Jason Carter says his granddad is "Excited to vote for Kamala Harris” and early voting begins Oct. 15 in Georgia, two weeks into James Earl Carter Jr.'s 101st year.
