Renovations can get back underway at the spring training home of the Marlins and Cardinals after this week's Jupiter Town Council meeting.

Representatives for Roger Dean Stadium presented their plans for a $108 million makeover at the 26-year old ballpark and they were approved.

The minor league franchises for both teams moved out of the facility temporarily last month to allow for the renovations, but work had stopped recently because the town had to approve the building permits.

It's a two-year project, but spring training is scheduled to take place at the stadium next year, while the work is being done.

It includes new state-of-the-art club houses for both teams and a new fan experience throughout much of the ballpark. A representative described what he called the 'biggest component of the fan experience' at the third-base line.

"We're taking out the standard aluminum bleacher seating that you roast in the sun and we're creating a more higher-end fan experience where it's got a drink rail in front of you. You have your own independent seat, a place to put your peanuts and your beverage. You're under shade and you're able to enjoy the game there."

It's the first major overhaul of the stadium which opened in 1997.

The Town Council decided to table discussion of a change involving a grass parking area so that it didn't hold up the renovations. The parking area in question does not affect spring training or minor league games, but tournaments that are held at the ballpark.

Jupiter town leaders say they will discuss that at a later date.
