Miami-Dade School Board Members Discuss Cardiac Screenings For Athletes

Miami-Dade School Board members looking over a pros and cons report for requiring cardiac screening for all student-athletes. Nicklaus Children's Hospital Dr. Lourdes Prieto says the screening is crucial since a child can have an abnormal electrocardiogram without any signs of trouble. School Board member Roberto Alonso came up with the idea after learning sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in athletes. If the board ok's the plan, they will discuss implementing rules at the next meeting next week.
