An English professor who was fired from a South Florida college has filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Sam Joeckel is claiming discrimination on the part of Palm Beach Atlantic University, not over his gender or skin color but his racial justice unit.

"They wanted this to just go away and I made it my mission to not let it go away."

Joeckel tells CBS 12 News that his contract was not renewed in March because a parent complained to the private West Palm Beach college, claiming that he was indoctrinating students.

But the professor says he never had a complaint issued against him or the unit in his more than 20 years at PBAU and that he never expressed his views or opinions.

"I'm feeling just completely disrespected by the university. You would think that they would trust me. And I know what I'm doing. I'm a good professor. I've been doing this a long time."

Joeckel believes that going to the EEOC is the "most effective way to obtain justice.

The filing is a necessary step in case Joeckel plans to file a federal lawsuit against the college.
