As a Boynton Beach woman sits in jail on a first degree murder charge in the death of her baby, the man who found the infant in the ocean is speaking out.
Chris Lemieux is a firefighter who happened upon the newborn girl while boating back in June of 2018.
"I'd rather myself find it then somebody, you know, that's not had dealings like I have working in the fire service that hasn't seen that before. I mean that could have been another child walking on the beach that found that."
He tells CBS 12 News that he always knew police would find the person responsible.
DNA technology led them to 29-year old Arya Singh, who was arrested last week. Police say she gave birth the day before and dumped the baby into the water at the Boynton Beach Inlet.
Lemieux reminds women dealing with unwanted pregancies about Florida's Safe Haven law.
"If anybody has this kind of situation, there's always the option of leaving the baby at the fire station. We're more than happy to deal with it. You can just drop a baby off at a fire station or any hospital."
Authorities working the case gave the newborn the name "Baby June" because of the month in which she was found.
Singh is being held without bond. The former security guard at Lynn University in Boca Raton will be back in court next month.
