Man arrested after throwing blood sugar testing machine at nurse

Naples, FL - A man was arrested on Saturday night after he threw a blood sugar testing machine at a nurse at a Southwest Florida psychiatric hospital.

According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a patient damaging property and threatening staff at The Willough psychiatric hospital in Naples.

A nurse on duty told deputies she was helping another patient when 53-year-old Mark Lovell picked up a blood sugar testing machine and threw it at her.

The nurse told deputies that the machine nearly hit her and that she wanted to press charges.

A witness told authorities Lovell had been acting violent all day, broke a table at the front of the facility, and kicked a door before throwing the blood sugar machine at the nurse.

The nurse told deputies Lovell had made verbal threats of violence against her and other staff at the facility.

Lovell was arrested on a charge of assault with intent to commit violence and taken to the Naples Jail.
