West Palm Beach, FL - A Florida man was shot and killed by his longtime friend after the friend forgot his gun was loaded and thought he was "dry-firing" when he shot the victim.

The 25-year-old victim was shot by his friend around 7 p.m. Sunday at the Emerald Isle Apartments in Palm Beach County.

The West Palm Beach police say officers arrived at the apartment complex to find the 25-year-old victim on the ground outside.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel with the West Palm Beach Fire Department.

Authorities say six people were in the apartment at the time the shooting occurred.

Witnesses told authorities the shooter admitted that he loaded a magazine and fired the gun, but forgot it was loaded and thought he was “dry-firing” when he killed the victim.

Police say the victim walked out of the second-floor apartment and down the stairs before collapsing.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
