Punta Gorda, FL - A woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison after she was shot in the butt while breaking into a South Florida home in 2019.
42-year-old Jessica Gutzler was found guilty of breaking into a Punta Gorda home.
According to investigators, Gutzler’s ex-boyfriend went to stay at a friend’s home after their break-up, when Gutzler banged on the front door and forced her way inside.
The armed homeowner tried to stop Gutzler from entering the residence, causing a fight between the two, which ended with the homeowner shooting Gutzler in the rear.
Gutzler ran away, but later called 911 asking for medical assistance.
She was taken to Lee Memorial as a trauma alert, where she was treated, released and booked by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on an out-of-county warrant.
Gutzler was found guilty on one count of burglary with a battery and was sentenced to 10 years probation following her prison sentence.
