Two Boynton Beach Commission seats are up for grabs, along with the Mayor's seat.
Here, we're covering the races for Districts 1 and 3.
Gregory Hartmann is one of three candidates vying for that District 1 seat being vacated by Justin Katz.
"I'm a small business owner. I have a really keen eye for saving money and being fiscally responsible. I just think the city could use a different kind of leadership, one that is enthusiastic, energetic and looking for creative solutions to some of our harder problems."
Angela Cruz is Chair of the city’s Senior Advisory Board who pledges to focus on "finding ways to lower the city’s millage rate without effecting the quality of critical city services."
She says the voters should choose her because "I have shown volunteerism and commitment to the city."
Candidate Thomas Pomante has not responded to requests for an interview and we couldn't find any campaign platforms listed for Pomante.
Three more candidates are running for the District 3 seat being vacated by Christina Romelus.
Marit Hedeen owns a small restaurant and butcher shop and while this is her first attempt at a political run, she says she's civically engaged.
"I have been a part of a local downtown Boynton Beach coalition of small business owners and residents that have been very instrumental in some of the decision-making going on in the growth that is currently happening in Boynton Beach."
Candidate Thomas Turkin is currently serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves and is a veterinarian by trade.
When asked what his business experience could bring to the dais in Boynton Beach, Turkin says he has experience "managing P&L's (Profit and Loss statements), budgeting, forecasting." He also notes that he holds his real estate license, so he has experience with negotiating contracts and working with people.
Turkin notes that the prior Commission closed boat ramps in the city during the COVID pandemic and that's something he says he would never vote for. He also wants to focus on how to utilize the Inlet and waterfront space.
Courtlandt McQuire is an advertising executive and chair of the city’s Arts Advisory Board.
He lists "business development and growth" and a need for better police and fire funding and staffing as priorities on his campaign website.
We are working with McQuire to secure an interview, which will be posted here.
A reminder that Early Voting is now underway in Palm Beach County.
